There are four “levels” of the substance that make up karma – body level, soul level and two levels of spirit. These are held cosmically in what the Toltec’s call the Four Great Bands of Compassion. Body level karma is the karma of deeds, soul level the karma of emotion and the two levels of spirit make up the karma of the “what ifs” and “if onlys” of our lives. Each individuation holds personal karma at the microcosmic level of their being, and macrocosmically the same levels play out the same themes for the collective.
The Ancient beings knows as the Original Ones are unique lenses into the macrocosm – through them all of life pivots as they “resolve” their own karma. Hence it is of utmost importance that these beings understand the nature of karma as an illusion in the larger context of a life of No Opposites (beyond the cosmic dream or matrix).
Our understanding of karma has been rudimentary. In most spiritual traditions it is considered with body level karma for example that “bad deeds” generate bad karma, where good karma is accrued through “good deeds”. It is in fact our judgement of anything as either good or bad that creates karma and then keeps it in place, otherwise it would not be there. Hence, in the larger sense there are no either good or bad deeds, we hold karma at the body level of what we judge to be imperfect. In seeing all deeds as in perfection, even the most heinous (we can begin this process within ourselves by applying self-love to all we self-judge) body level karma is dissolved. As there is no choice in action and all is directed by the hand of the One, all beings are at all times playing their part impeccably. Guilt and blame are the emotions that hold body level karma in place. Even if we have been greatly wronged, freedom will only come through dissolving this. A primary factor that makes it very difficult for humanity to release body level karma is the belief that there must be some kind of “justice” enforced, in the absence of trusting that life will always redress the balance in its own way.
Karma at the soul level can only be when we believe in the illusion that there can be more than one being (duality). It is generated by experience “in relation” to another and the emotion that arises from the pain of separation. Believing in experience “in relation” to another is a form of comparison that is at cause for the original fall in consciousness whereby individuations became static perspectives and forgot that their Source was the One Ocean. The factor that holds emotional karma of the soul in place is the belief that we are bound in some way to others through experience and hence attempt to “resolve” things. As there is only one being in existence, it is impossible to be bound to anything. Ties that bind arise from the illusion of relationship. No two beings exist, a dual existence is merely a game we play in order to examine ourselves in the mirror of opposites. Regarding ties that bind, all that is necessary to cut them is to decide that we no longer wish to examine the Self in mirrors but rather in wholeness. Circumstances then may or may not change, but by approaching from the perspective of there being only One we avoid the trap of reinforcing opposition by treating the illusion of duality as real.
Further explanation is given as this is a big one for many people: To attempt to “resolve” relationship is to play into the illusion, and as with any illusory fire it will burn. This then creates a cycle of generating further painful karma and keeps us going round in circles over the same issues. Regarding the reality of there being only One being, there is a paradox here in that it doesn’t mean that co-operation isn’t necessary in “relationship”, however harmonious co-operation is only possible when we can wield the perspective of individuation (pristine humanity) as a tool. It is then possible to dance with the illusion of relationship, rather than being bound by it. Emotional karma is created through the idea that one thing can relate to another as in the idea of there being two separate beings. Simultaneous wielding of both individuation and Oneness (Godhood) resolves the illusion of emotional karma. More on this will be discussed in another article as it is a larger subject that requires more context.
At the spirit level, the perspective that holds karma in place is one which fails to recognise that there is Infinite potential accessible at all times. With this comes Infinite possibilities, and no one choice is any more or less valid that another. Furthermore, we have eternity in which to play out the masterpiece of our existence. Body, soul and spirit levels within the matrix conspire to perpetuate cycling around the disc of life through linear time, giving the impression of beginnings and endings through a finite existence (which causes grief). Body level pertains to what we call “life”, soul level corresponds to “death”. Spirit level corresponds to “ascension”, and hence we have the cyclical movement of life, death and ascension. Within each of these levels we meet the band of karma that corresponds to that particular level. What we are actually aiming for as highest level of evolution is to move beyond all three by recognising their “unreality”. From this perspective beyond the mirrors of each of these self-reflecting levels we are able to wield the clean and pure lenses of body, soul and spirit as our tools of perception. From our position within the mirrors, we can only see the karmic debris that they “reflect” to us and this is what plays out in our lives as the phenomenon of karma.
In conclusion, to live as if karma is real at all holds the illusion of it in place. It is our belief in karma and attempting to resolve it that actually perpetuates duality. To break this all down into very simple terms, all karma is a product of judgement. We merely need to release the judgement of anything as imperfect and it all dissolves. Cultivating the lived perspectives/attitudes of love, praise, gratitude and trust for the great miracle of the One existence even when we cannot see its perfection is how we alchemically leverage ourselves beyond all illusions of the cosmic dream. To do this requires the utmost humility in acknowledging that we may have been wrong about everything.
